Donna Unbound was nominated for the 2018 Liebster Award by Leah Little Travel & Fashion! I am so excited! Leah Little Travel & Fashion is a blog focused on, as it says travel & fashion. Two passions of Leah’s. Her blog is amazing and I encourage you to check it out! Leah, thank you so much for this nomination!
Over the past months my experience as blogger has exposed me to meeting the some wonderful people. Don’t let anyone tell you there are no good people left in the world. Everyone loves to share what they know, and the blogging community is the same! The Liebster Award is a great example of paying it forward and helping others.
The Liebster Award 2017 is an award that exists only on the internet and is given to bloggers by other bloggers. The earliest case of the award goes as far back as 2011. Liebster in German means sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, and welcome.

Questions from Leah Little Travel & Fashion to Donna Unbound
1. If you could travel to any place on earth, at any time in history, to where and when would you travel?
If I could travel to anyplace and to any time in history, I would choose the roaring 20’s of New York. There is something about the fashion of the time, the changing atmosphere and the rebel in me calls to this era. A time when people were looking to break out of the strict molds of society.
2. What is your favorite part of blogging?
Wow, this a good question. I thought blogging was all about the writing, but I soon learned, it’s more about the readers! My favorite part of blogging is after the blog is posted, and getting to chat and communicate with the community about what I’ve written.
How they agree or disagree with my points, those that have traveled to the destination and have tips to share and now other women discussing concerns and issues we have and being open to share our fears, pains, and good times!
3. What is your least favorite part of blogging?
Oh no! I should have known this question was coming. My least favorite part of blogging is all the back work. The SEO (search engine optimization), keyword searches, social media building, etc. Although I understand the need for it, it seems to take away a bit of the genuine conversation.
4. If you could invite 3 people to dinner (alive or dead), who would you invite? Why?
The first would be my grandmother. She’s been gone now over 20 years but, I still miss her everyday. To be able to speak to her one more time would be priceless.
Lucille Ball was always one of my favorite comedians, even when I was in grade school. I would watch re-runs of the I Love Lucy Show. A true artist at comedy.
Jane Goodall – because she has to have some awesome stories to tell!
5. What is your favorite mode of transportation? Why?
Absolutely it would be by car. I love road trips! The day after Scott and I were married we moved to Norfolk, Va where he was stationed in the US Navy. We would drive home periodically to New York (an 8 hour drive) over the weekend, and think nothing of it. We still do this, but now it’s 12 hours from Michigan to New York.
I love the conversation, the views, and the stops along the way. It’s travel on your schedule; not the airlines, or ships or trains.
6.If you could describe your blog in just one word, what word would you use? Why?
If you’ve followed Donna Unbound these last few months you’ll know my heart is leading me to write about more than just travel. I’m venturing into waters that are bit scary for me, and writing about (and for) women over 50 who are entering or in the menopause years. What this brings with it for us, how we feel about; the fears, apprehension, and joy of this new stage in our lives.
7. Share a favorite travel story
One of my favorite stories is on our trip to Scotland in 2011. We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. However, it was our 24th anniversary. You see, I found the trip I wanted to go on but our 25th was a year away. When we talked about it Scott said; “book it, you never know what will happen in the next year.”
It was an amazing trip and our high light was at Edinburgh Castle at the Military Tattoo. We were so excited to be seeing it on the actual date of our anniversary. Of course it was Scotland; we sat in the pouring rain for two hours, but had a fabulous time listening to the drums and bagpipes!
8. What is the best food you have eaten while traveling?
Wow, this is tough. I would have to save there isn’t one item, but an event where we ate the entire time. On our trip to Rome, Italy for our daughters graduation from high school celebration, we took a food tour of Rome. This turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip and favorite experience for all of us. We heard the history of the town (just on the other side of the Tigris River), meet the small shop owners and sample all types of food from pastries, meats, baked goods, fruits and take away. But don’t forget the best of all was the gelato!
9. Where is your favorite place you have traveled? Why?
This is such a hard one to answer for me. I’ve loved every place we have been and each has it’s own charm. From Scotland, Italy, Mexico, Arizona, California, Utah, to the Caribbean Islands I’m not sure I could actually name a favorite.
10. If you could blog about a topic that you don’t already blog about, what would it be?
Actually just a couple of weeks ago I would have said that I’d like to blog about entering a new stage in life. Being over 50, children grown, being a grandparent, and all the changes that come with this age. For example, the conversation about letting my hair go grey. So, I’ll stick with that answer.
